ial, Helvetica, sans-serif">ize: 10px;">They can also be used to teach rhythmic patterns and the concept of crossing over the midline of the body.  "Kids have a tough time learning to point the right foot, crossing the body to the left, for example, says Clough.  The mats help to simplify teaching this technique as the instructor can demonstrate by directing the dancers to point their foot toward the shape that is across the body." Instructors can also utilize the mats from a kneeling position and tap out rhythmic patterns on the shapes with their hands that the dancers can copy. The mat helps with musicality, teaching colors, shapes and using the dancers right and left.
