FOR PARENTS

Cindy Clough, founder of Just For Kix, created the Tutu Tot mat.

She was teaching children how to place their feet in ballet positions and thought..."I wish I had foot prints of where they should place their feet."

Thus the idea was born.  It not only helps children learn the ballet positions, but teaches colors and shapes as well.  It is a great teaching tool during class.

It can also be used for at home practice and play.  The inexpensive mat can be rolled and tied with a hair binder or ribbon to transport.

FOR TEACHERS

This is the best thing to happen in the preschool dance teaching arena in a long time.

The mats are non slip similar to a yoga mat.

They can also be used to teach rhythmic patterns and the concept of crossing over the midline of the body.  "Kids have a tough time learning to point the right foot, crossing the body to the left, for example, says Clough.  The mats help to simplify teaching this technique as the instructor can demonstrate by directing the dancers to point their foot toward the shape that is across the body." Instructors can also utilize the mats from a kneeling position and tap out rhythmic patterns on the shapes with their hands that the dancers can copy. The mat helps with musicality, teaching colors, shapes and using the dancers right and left.
