A Look At Spring Dancewear Styles

Spring Dancewear Styles

It's getting warm outside, which means it's spring dance season -- and the perfect time to shop for new dancewear styles. As the saying goes, "out with the old and in with the new." And at Just for Kix, we offer all the new looks you need for every style of dance, whether it's flowy lyrical dresses or a sparkly jazz ensemble. Ready to clean house and shop fresh styles this spring? Here's a look at dancewear options that are perfect for center stage, as well as the studio:

Jazz

Since jazz is a combination of many different styles of dance -- from modern to ballet -- it often offers more creative leeway in terms of the dancewear you choose. While you can always rely on the dance staples, including jazz shoes, a leotard and tights, you might be tired of the same old look.

Instead, get trendy with a camisole paired with jazz pants, which are similar to yoga pants. These provide a more modern style, as well as more coverage, while still allowing for comfort and flexible movement. If you want something a little flashier, try some printed leggings with a sequined crop top or a fringe asymmetrical top. Another look to consider is an edgy graphic tank with galaxy leggings.

If it's jazz dancewear for a recital or competition you're interested, look to your music selection first as your style guide. It should give you some indication of the look you want to capture with your dancewear selection. But if you really want to stand out, consider some attention-grabbing accessories, like sequin leg warmers, electric lighted gloves, or a dance LED lighted electric hat.

Ballet

Spring Dancewear Styles

Leotards are still the gold standard when it comes to ballet. For spring, though, you might want to perk things up and invest in some new colors, beyond ballet pink. From light blue to flaming red, today's leotards come in a wide variety of colors.

Styles too are flexible, including halter leotards and lace racerback leotards for older dancers, while tank, long-sleeve, and camisole leotards are more appropriate for younger dancers. Other styles of ballet leotards include off-the-shoulder, as well as those with boat necks, one shoulder cuts, and turtlenecks.

Whatever you do choose, don't forget your tights! While pink is by far the most popular color, today there are other shades, as well as styles to choose from. For spring, try a different color, like mocha or caramel. You might want to try a different cut, as well, like footless, stirrup, or body wrapper tights.

Of course, once you're on the stage, go for the dramatic. To add some flare to your ballet performance, consider an elegant ballet skirt, graceful ballet dress, or colorful dance tutu. They're the perfect finishing touch to the routine you've been mastering.

Lyrical

When it comes to dancewear style for lyrical dance, many dancers simply wear a leotard and a pair of tights to class. Footed tights are typically recommended for this type of dance. Another option is a leotard with capri tights (which look similar to bicycle shorts) over them.

When it comes to taking the stage, though, dancewear should reflect the style of dance. Look for muted colors and fluid designs that emphasize the spirit and emotion of the dance. There are plenty of options to choose from, including lace dresses, sequin tank dresses, body wrappers, and asymmetrical long sleeve skirted dresses.

Pom

Pom dancewear is in a different league all its own. While competition outfits need to be crisp and eye-catching, what you wear to the studio is important to consider, too. For practice, don't just wear what you'd don to the gym. Not all sportswear is created equal and the needs of someone on the field are different than dancers in the studio.

Rather, look for dancewear that's lightweight and fitted; even better, look for clothing designed specifically for pom. When you're tumbling or doing stunts, ill-fitting or loose garments can be a serious hazard. That's why it's so important to find dancewear that fits you well.

Today, there are many styles to choose from, from sporty to high energy to softer and more elegant. For instance, consider a cool graphic dancewear t-shirt paired with black capris, so you're both comfortable and stylish.

Hip Hop

When it comes to hip-hop, the dress code is casual. This is the style of dance where looser tops and bottoms are more acceptable. Also, footwear takes center stage in hip hop, with options ranging from combat boots to dance sneakers. If your child is taking a hip-hop dance class, you can skip the more formal dancewear, like leotards and tights, and instead focus on fun, from sequin t-shirts to harem pants.
