How To Increase Core Strength

Having a strong core is crucial to being a strong dancer. 

Try these drills to increase your core strength. 

Plank: Go on your elbows or push up position. No curved backs, straight back. Make sure your stomach and abs are squeezing. To make it more difficult, flip to the side and pulse, or put your top leg and arm up and hold. 

A strong core will help your balance, especially for your turns. 

Leg raises: Lay down on back. Keep lower back flat on the ground. Lift legs up and lower slowly. Go as low as you can without lower back coming off the ground.

Crunches: Make sure you are using all of your abs and not just your arms. Go up to crunch and do small pulses.
