Why you SHOULD Eat Breakfast

Breakfast is the most essential meal of the day

You may have heard it before, but it is worth a repeat. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. As your schedules are filled with practice, school, and homework, many tend to hit the snooze button and skip breakfast to get those extra few precious minutes of sleep. This can be a dangerous mistake. Here’s why:

  1. Breakfast boosts energy.Food is fuel. By eating breakfast, you enable your body to get the energy it needs to make it through the day without a mid-day unexpected snooze. Breakfast boosts your metabolism and allows your body the ability to burn calories throughout the day, thus giving you more energy.
  2. Breakfast curbs hunger throughout the day.The more you eat in the morning, the less hungry you will be between the time when you wake up to when lunch rolls around. If you concentrate on getting a decent breakfast, you will not have to concentrate as hard on what you are having for lunch.
  3. Breakfast prevents overeating.When you skip a meal, your body goes into starvation mode. This means that your mind does not know when your next meal will be, forcing your body to store your next meal as fat. By skipping breakfast and eating your first meal as lunch, you trick your mind into thinking that lunch will be your last meal for a while. Therefore, you are more likely to binge and eat more at lunch by not giving your body the proper nutrients it needs in the morning.
  4. Breakfast improves concentration.It is a proven fact that breakfast fuels the body AND mind. Not only will eating breakfast give you energy throughout the day, but it will also give your mind the energy it needs to concentrate on activities throughout the day. After eating a hearty breakfast, you will find yourself more engaged and focused during your morning activities.  

We’re not saying to go 100% organic, or to eat half a cow, or to prepare a luxurious sit-down meal for breakfast. We’re just saying that half of a Pop Tart and a swig of orange juice is not going to cut it. Do your body a favor and give it what it needs! Set the tone for your day and allow your body to perform to its peak abilities by giving it the fuel it deserves.
