Show and Recital Tips from Cindy Clough

05/15/2018

Here are considerations when running your show or annual recital:

RESERVE FACILITY EARLY–Decide on how many shows you will need.  Think about length of shows and crowd/seating.

  • The flow of the show is SO important. Create a traffic pattern, all groups should enter from one door and exit from another. The dancers should not use the doors that the parents are using to enter and exit from the facility.  You want to avoid congestion.

* Speed is Important. One groups should be entering when the other is exiting.

ASSIGN JOBS You will need; – Help setting up – Help in decorating the facility – Someone to run the music – Someone to line up the dancers – Someone to pass out programs – Someone to cue the dancers – Someone to video tape the show – An announcer for the show – Admission Sales people - cover all entrances – Merchandise sales person – Help to clean and pack up. (More than you think, as you will be tired then.) – Lighting

CHECK LIST – Glow in the dark tape – Programs – Performance play list. – Music Back up.  Back up computer or CD's. – Sound system – Microphone – Extra gloves, tights, hair pieces, etc. – Extension cords and power strips. – Video Camera, video tape,  tri pod – Group pictures for display – Money bags – Set-up cash for admissions/merchandise sales – Pens and pencils – Safety pins – Flashlights for when lights are out – Props for all routines – Commentary for announcer – Notes for staff. – Create a timeline. (Doors open, in place, etc.) – Clean up crew after the show

WAYS TO MAKE A PROFIT

  • PROGRAM ADVERTISING.  Recruit area businesses, sell ads in your program
  • Flower sales.  Adding glitter to the tips really helps sell them. Under order and sell out, or sell by bouquets at the end of the day.
  • If you do a light stick routine, sell light sticks to children
  • Have a THEME and MATCH the theme to the T-SHIRT you sell.
