This is a sample of what a team may do to get organized.
Please note that states vary greatly...therefore you would need to lay
things out differently. Use this as a guideline to get your thoughts going.
MARCH
* Wrap up any end of the season business.
* Select and announce try out dates. Send out try out announcements.
APRIL/MAY
* Hold try outs.
* Meet with officers for the upcoming season.
- Hand out literature to them (expectations, hints, etc.)
- Assign choreography and set deadlines for completion.
- Discuss music and uniforms for the upcoming season.
* Attend coaches and captains convention. (DTDA National Convention and/or
state convention).
* Collect uniforms from graduating seniors.
* Inventory uniforms and accessories.
* Place an order for lost or additional items needed.
* Following try-outs, meet with your new team.
- Pass out constitution.
- Pass out a schedule of summer events.
- Plan uniforms for football, parades, etc.
- Decide on warm ups, letter jackets, etc.
- Plan a summer party.
JUNE/JULY/AUGUST
* Hold a parents meeting (Go over rules, expectations, plan fundraisers.)
* Attend a camp as a team.
* Choreographers should be working throughout the summer on their competition,
show, and home performance routines.
* Begin practice in August. (Minnesota - Performance Season)
* Have a mom take measurements of all dancers at practice.
* Schedule out the entire year. Include try-outs, pep-fests, shows, competitions,
banquet, sports events, etc..
* Pass out SEPT/OCT schedule as well as a list of important events. (attach
a phone/address roster for each dancer.)
* Plan fundraisers/list them on the schedule.
SEPTEMBER
* Continue with practices.
* Pep-fest and football performances.
* Fundraiser.
* Music - Finalize upcoming competition music.
* Practice, perform, choreograph for future.
NOVEMBER
* In Minnesota, the competition season begins.
*Schedule a publicity day. Take several photos to be used in the paper.
Take year book and „button‰ photos the same day.
*Parents Night
DECEMBER
*Eat, drink, sleep, practice, perform, compete, eat, drink, sleep, practice,
perform, compete...
*Schedule a winter show as a fundraiser
JANUARY

FEBRUARY

*Sloppy joe supper -parent & team dinner before performance.
